Of commanding presence, this richly carved mirror frame is animated by bold scrolling volutes and sculpted masks, its baroque vocabulary heightened by warm parcel gilding set against a deep ebonised ground. The oval surround is punctuated by rosettes and geometric banding, lending rhythm and architectural clarity to the ornament.
A solemn mask crowns the crest, echoed by a corresponding mask at the base above a projecting shelf — a rare and evocative feature that suggests an original ceremonial or devotional function. Softly timeworn gilding catches the light with restraint, emphasising the depth of carving and the dramatic interplay of shadow and gold characteristic of Northern Italian craftsmanship.
