A Persian Shiraz Tribal Carpet, First Half 20th Century.
The terracotta field centred by three large linked geometric medallions in cobalt blue, rust and ivory, surrounded by a dense arrangement of stylised flowering plants, lozenges and small tribal devices. The field is enclosed by multiple geometric borders, including a broad outer band of repeating hooked medallions, worked in a richly muted palette of terracotta, indigo blue, ivory and soft green.
The bold central composition and densely worked decoration are characteristic of the tribal weaving traditions of southern Persia, particularly those associated with the Shiraz region. The naturally varied drawing, softened colours and areas of age-related wear give the carpet an especially atmospheric and individual character.
