Exquisitely carved in the Baroque manner, the frame is richly adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves and retains an antique velvet passepartout that lends further depth and softness to its design. The gilding has mellowed beautifully with age, creating a warm, luminous surface. The mirror plate itself is purely decorative, and is not original. With its sculptural presence, rich texture and elegant proportions, this piece would bring a sense of drama and refinement to any interior, whether placed above a console, incorporated into a gallery wall, or allowed to stand alone as a statement of Italian craftsmanship.
