Graceful in proportion and animated by rustic ornament, this 19th-century French provincial mirror is carved in warm-toned wood with an exuberant pierced crest of scrolling foliage, stylised flowers, and latticework detail. The uprights and apron are richly worked with textured carving and softly modelled motifs, their surfaces mellowed by time to a gentle, time-worn patina that speaks to long domestic use.

The mirror plate, subtly foxed and delicately clouded with age, harmonises with the historic frame to produce a reflective surface of atmospheric softness rather than brilliance.
