A striking fragment of a ceremonial Indonesian ikat textile, likely from Timor, woven in hand-spun cotton and dyed with natural indigo and morinda. The composition is organised in vertical bands of rhythmic geometric striping alternating with broader registers of stylised ancestral and zoomorphic motifs—forms traditionally associated with status, ritual, and lineage. Mounted within a simple later frame, the cloth is presented as a graphic field of deep midnight blue, softened ivory, and muted red, its gently feathered patterning bearing witness to the resist-dyed ikat technique. Both ethnographic artefact and modern decorative object, the piece possesses a quiet monumentality and timeless visual power.
